Our History

A Calumet Story Since 1903

The building The Misco calls home dates to around 1870, when it was built as a private residence. In 1903, it became the Miscowaubik Club, offering a place for recreation, dining, and socializing during the height of Calumet’s copper boom.

For decades, the Club was closely tied to Calumet & Hecla and welcomed local leaders and notable visitors, including Henry Ford and Thomas Edison. In 1967, The Misco became independent of the mining company and continued as a member-supported club.

Throughout its history, the Club has retained much of its original character, with historic rooms, architectural details, furnishings, and recreational spaces offering a glimpse into more than a century of life at The Misco.
